About us

Community Circle Players has been a cornerstone of the arts in Downtown Lansing since 1989, but our story goes back to a tiny warehouse on Sheridan St in 1958.

Welcome to Riverwalk Theatre, a cornerstone of Lansing’s performing arts community. What began in 1958 as Community Circle Players (CCP) in a small 140-seat theater has grown into a thriving, all-volunteer organization dedicated to providing high-quality live theatre experiences for audiences and performers alike.

Our journey has been one of passion, perseverance, and community spirit. In 1964, we found a home in the Okemos Barn Theatre, where we flourished for 22 years. When the barn was demolished in 1986, we embraced a new chapter, transforming an old warehouse by the river into what is now Riverwalk Theatre. Since opening our doors in 1989, we have continued to produce outstanding theatrical performances, offering a space not only for entertainment but also for artistic and educational endeavors.

With the support of our members, local businesses, and generous donors, we purchased our building in 1999 and have since invested nearly two million dollars in renovations—without taking on a mortgage. Our expansions have included a studio performance space, a new rehearsal hall, upgraded lobby and concessions, and much more. The Black Box Auditorium officially opened in 2009, further enriching the versatility of our venue.

Today, Riverwalk Theatre is proud to offer a diverse lineup of productions, including family friendly shows, dramas and comedies, musicals, original works and staged readings, and a variety of special events. Our Rotary Main Stage and Dart Black Box Studio provide dynamic platforms for storytelling, fostering creativity, and engaging the Lansing community in the magic of live theatre.

As a nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization, we are humbled by the generosity of our supporters who help us continue to grow and evolve. Whether you're a performer, patron, or first-time visitor, we invite you to be part of our story. Welcome to Riverwalk Theatre—where community and creativity take center stage.
